Skegness Football Mania

Skegness has been gearing up for the England football matches in the World Cup 2006.

Shops are selling everything the football fans might need to cheer England on (left-photo taken by Paul Gooch with kind permission of Clinton Cards).

England flags, England balloons, England T-shirts, England er ironing board covers? (on sale at Woolworths) Oh well-if it takes the monotony out of the boring job of ironing, why not?

Already the England flag is flying everywhere, from house windows to cars. Some football fans are even spraying their car bonnets in the colours of the St George Flag!

These kids are from the Viking Private School in Skegness. They held a World Cup Day on 9th June and had just one word to say - 'ENGLAND!...(clap...clap...clap)'

The England v Paraguay match kick off was at 2.00pm on Saturday.

Many football fans in Skegness watched the match in the local pubs. There was a brilliant atmosphere. The fans were excited and extremely well behaved! Just as it should be!

15th June 2006 England v Trinidad & Tobago

Skegness News on Video captured the brilliant atmosphere in the Marine Boathouse Skegness when each of the goals were scored.

The first half of the World Cup match saw no goals scored by either side.
Things certainly heated up in the second half when England scored two goals.

England v Sweden

England played Sweden on Tuesday 20th June. The kick-off was at 8pm BST. Skegness was like a ghost town as the fans huddled around wide screens in the local pubs.
England scored its first goal just before half time. Sweden equalized early in the second half. England scored a second goal which again was shortly followed by another goal by Sweden.
